Hanes Park, in the heart of Winston Salem, is threatened by a private proposal to build a high school football stadium and more on Wiley Middle School property. On Nov. 28, 2012, the WSFC School Board voted to allow Home Field Advantage to commence fundraising for a specific plan which included a 2,200-seat stadium. As of Fall 2015, Home Field Advantage, with the open support of school administration, has promoted a 4,000-seat stadium in their fund raising initiatives. Furthermore, responsibilities for portions of the project as outlined in the original decision has shifted from the private Home Field Advantage group to the bond proposed by WSFC Schools. Thus, portions of this project's construction is proposed to be funded by tax payer dollars.
